Make OR Break Factor

Properties of the material used in the repairs had to be perfectly formulated to suit the default tough conditions of heat and abrasion.

THE CHALLENGE :

  • The heat and abrasive properties of the clinker had led to concrete erosion, resulting in a 0.8 mts. x 3 mts. vertical slit on the outer face.

THE ODDS :

  • The entire job had to be completed within a shutdown period of just 7 days
  • The access to the silo was only about 0.6 mts. x 1 mt. in dimension, making access difficult
  • Accumulated dust on the surface of the silo made working conditions unbearable

OUR RESPONSE :

  • After an initial condition assessment of the structure was undertaken and results analyzed, we designed a retrofit method
  • This included providing additional MS reinforcements by anchoring it to existing RCC
  • We then patched up the damaged concrete sections with heat and abrasion-resistant material
